White House Correspondents Dinner Announces Plans to be Funny

The White House Correspondents Dinner, better known as ‘nerd prom’, in which media types and celebs mix and bond over their mutual hatred of 50% of the country and all that it stands for, usually features comedians who do a set to rounds of clapter about just how awful Republicans are.

Now, in a break with tradition (and because Trump isn’t coming anyway), the White House Correspondents Association, currently about as relevant as the Phrenology Association of the Americas (we love to bump and it shows), has announced that it won’t have a comedian, but will do more speeches about how the First Amendment is threatened by the Trump administration refusing to pay attention to the media.

If nothing else, it might actually be funny.

The White House Correspondents Dinner has failed to be funny when it tried for comedy, now that it’s instead going for tragedy, maybe it’ll actually get a laugh or two.

Just think of the somber speeches about the preciousness of Freedom of Speech from the very same people who tried to cancel and censor much of the country, and the pieties about democracy from the very elites now resisting it.

The Trump administration is reportedly planning counterprogramming so expect the WCHA dinner to be extra self-righteous.
