Leftists used to love whistleblowers — until they didn’t.
Time was when the likes of Eric Ciaramella and Alexander Vindman were the toast of the Democrat-dominated town because their treachery was leveled at Donald Trump. Later, though, when FBI and IRS and Secret Service whistleblowers started stepping forward to denounce the malfeasance of the deep state? Not so much.
Sadly, the same can be said for the Left’s reaction to another intrepid truth-teller: Dr. Eithan Haim, whose unwillingness to sit idly by has made him an enemy of the Woke State. In May 2023, Haim anonymously blew the whistle on the evil being done at Texas Children’s Hospital, where so-called sex-change procedures were still being performed on children as young as 11 — this despite the hospital having promised a year earlier to end the mutilations, after the state’s attorney general, Ken Paxton, issued a legal opinion that such “treatments” could constitute child abuse under Texas law.
Haim, a surgeon, eventually identified himself to counter the political intimidation he’d been receiving, which included a visit from Joe Biden’s HHS henchmen, harassment from the Rainbow Mafia, and a threat of prosecution by the Biden DOJ. Nice career ya got there, Doc. It’d be a shame if it ended with 10 years for a HIPAA violation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tina Ansari ultimately made bad on that threat, charging Haim with four fake felonies involving the violation of patient privacy. Haim never did any such thing, though. He never once mentioned a particular patient by name or disclosed any individually identifying information. This, then, as our Nate Jackson points out, is as much about Orwellian thoughtcrime and two-tiered justice as it is about mutilating kids.
Elections have consequences, though, and four days after Donald Trump took office, his DOJ dropped all charges against Haim with prejudice — meaning that the charges can’t ever be refiled by a vendetta-driven Democrat.
Yesterday, the blowback came, with Haim testifying before the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government. The topic of the hearings? Ending lawfare against whistleblowers. As the committee’s chairman, Texan Chip Roy, began:
The Rule of Law demands equal application without fear or favor. That’s why we find ourselves here again today — to continue our work to hold the Biden and Harris administration accountable for their weaponization and political prosecution against their perceived adversaries. Over the past four years, we witnessed the Department of Justice being weaponized against parents, traditionalist Catholics, and peaceful pro-life protesters and grandmothers.
Roy then trained his fire on Haim’s primary persecutor: “Serious ethical questions stemmed related to Ms. Ansari’s prosecution of Dr. Haim, including allegedly presenting knowingly false information to a grand jury in order to secure an initial indictment; threatening employment retaliation against Dr. Haim’s wife as a form of intimidation; failing to disclose her substantial financial ties to Texas Children’s Hospital through her family’s commercial coffee company; not divulging having family members previously on the hospital’s board of directors; attending a VIP reception at a hospital fundraiser while the [Haim] case was pending; practicing law despite her law license having been suspended by the Texas Bar for failure to pay bar dues.”
Dr. Haim’s testimony immediately reinforced Chairman Roy’s initial charge against Ansari: “From the very beginning, I knew this was nothing more than a charade. I knew this because I never violated HIPAA. I never accessed the records of transgender patients or released any identifiable information. All of it was fully redacted de-identified hospital data, which is used every single day to report infectious disease outbreaks like measles or conducting retrospective research studies.”

Later, Haim addressed the horrific nature of so-called gender-affirming care. “I understand and I’ve seen,” he said, “the effects of what these blockers do, what these hormones do, and what these surgeries do. … We’re talking about urethral stenosis, where you can’t go out to a coffee shop and go to the bathroom because the urethra is narrowed so that fluid builds up in the bladder.” He then addressed the genital surgery done to males, “where stool from the rectum can pour into the wound that they call the neovagina.”
Perhaps Dr. Haim’s courage will embolden other whistleblowers. And perhaps we can stem the transgender tide before another generation of American children is irreparably harmed. In addition, if the Trump DOJ can find a way to hold Ansari and her ilk accountable for their attack on a private citizen, perhaps we can also put these purveyors of lawfare on notice.
