Trump told the brief story behind the biblical holiday centered on Jesus Christ, who, according to Christian tradition, was crucified on a cross and then rose from the dead. The president referred to the event as proof of God’s “boundless love” for people while also giving them the “promise of everlasting life.” As a Christian himself, Trump made the proclamation, as other believers do, that “He is risen.”
“As we approach this joyous Easter Sunday, I want to wish Christians everywhere a happy, and beautiful, and blessed holiday,” Trump said. “America is a nation of believers. We need God. We want God. And with His help, we will make our nation stronger, safer, greater, more prosperous, and much more united than before.”
