Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) drew the ire of victims of illegal immigrant crime everywhere on Thursday when he met with illegal immigrant and suspected MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia at the CECOT maximum security prison in El Salvador.
Abrego Garcia had been living in Van Hollen’s home state of Maryland. Despite being in the country illegally, the country’s vast left-wing political machine has tried to advance the incorrect narrative that Abrego Garcia was a “legal resident” of the state. This is not true. Nevertheless, the senator claimed he was worried about Abrego Garcia’s well-being. Yet, that same kind of concern didn’t exist when it came to holding illegal immigrants accountable for crimes committed in this nation. Van Hollen was one of the senators who voted against the Laken Riley Act.
Another example of Van Hollen’s despicable actions involves a different family from his state of Maryland.
Van Hollen traveled over 3,000 miles to visit Abrego Garcia. However, he apparently couldn’t find the time to visit the family of Rachel Morin, 37, a mother of five who was brutally murdered in August 2023 by an illegal immigrant from El Salvador. He tried several times to meet with him in El Salvador, demonstrating incredible persistence. Van Hollen eventually met with Abrego Garcia and posted about it on social media.
“I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar,” he posted on X on Thursday night, complete with a photo of them talking. “Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.”
All of this is indicative of Van Hollen’s lack of a moral code and his prioritization of criminals while dismissing and downplaying the protection of the innocent. Abrego Garcia was in the country illegally and should have been deported years ago. The incompetence of the country’s broken immigration system prevented that from happening. There were valid concerns over the legality of his deportation to El Salvador, but those are arguably overblown.
Van Hollen and other supporters of Abrego Garcia aren’t merely upset that he was deported to El Salvador, or, as they claim, due process. Many of these same people said nothing when Trump, pro-life demonstrators, Republican activists, or Jan. 6 protesters experienced arguably illegitimate and questionable “justice.” They are only upset because he was deported, period. They are just scapegoating the sloppiness of the Trump administration’s actions.
Suffice it to say, if Trump hypothetically woke up tomorrow and ordered Abrego Garcia to be returned from El Salvador but deported to another country — as Abrego Garcia’s 2019 withholding order stipulated — none of the outraged supporters would be any less angry. The fact of the matter boils down to one thing: Democrats want illegal immigrants in the country. Moreover, judging by their lack of support for the Laken Riley Act, Democrats are seemingly tolerant of illegal immigrants not being held accountable for committing crimes.

Actions speak louder than words. Everything Democrats like Van Hollen have done unequivocally shows they don’t care about American citizens as much as criminal illegal immigrants. It’s utterly despicable, deplorable, and shameful.
While Trump tries to make America great again, Van Hollen and his cadre of Democrats are doing everything possible to sabotage his efforts and worsen the country.
