RFK Jr., FDA Commissioner announce synthetic food dye ban

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary will make a joint announcement at 4 p.m. Tuesday banning synthetic dyes in food.

The FDA has approved 36 color additives for use in food, including nine synthetic dyes — one of which is Red 3, a dye the agency banned in January.

Some studies have found a link between these dyes and neurological problems in children.
