Late Saturday, the New York Post revealed the suspect who allegedly stole Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse on Easter Sunday was an illegal alien. Like much of President Trump’s successes on immigration, it was barely covered by the liberal broadcast networks with ABC ignoring it completely and CBS and NBC mentioning it just once through Tuesday morning on their respective flagship morning and evening shows.
Instead, they’re hellbent on making alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia an early frontrunner for Time’s Person of the Year.
With ABC’s Good Morning America and World News Tonight instead peddling the latest sob story about deported illegal immigrants, they also missed the fact that a second suspect in the case of Noem’s purse snatching (and its contents, worth thousands of dollars in addition to her IDs).
A 27-second news brief from Monday’s NBC Nightly News was the only mention on the Peacock network.
Check out anchor Lester Holt’s description and notice no mention of the second suspect being an illegal as well:
This is almost as stupid as the liberal media when a criminal or terrorist uses a car or truck to run innocents over. The scourge of the runaway vehicles!
Tuesday’s CBS Mornings not only had the correct label for these alleged criminals, but it spent more time:
“They touched on several issues, including the recent theft of her purse, which included her driver’s license, passport, and about $3,000 in cash. Two suspects are in custody. Officials say both of them are in the U.S. illegally and Tony asked about that,” CBS Mornings Plus co-host Adriana Diaz began.
The clip above then played with Dokoupil asking: “There have been arrests in this case. How confident are you that the people arrested were, indeed, undocumented migrants?”
Noem shifted the focus, refusing to refer to herself as a victim and instead that this will hopefully take criminals off the street who shouldn’t have been in the country to begin with (click “expand”):
NOEM: Very confident. From the information that has been shared with me so far in the investigation and I understand they’ve been talking to them and getting information and getting these — these are career criminals. They have perpetuated crimes against many people in this country for many years illegally.
DOKOUPIL: Is it just a coincidence that they happened to pick your purse?
NOEM: You know, I believe so. We were with a big family, four kids under the age of four. I had it right between my feet. But he was professional in how he took it and, you know, we’re just glad that now that he’s in custody because of so many other crimes he’s committed. You know, he worked with other people to do this and has been doing it for years, so, you know, this is what Americans shouldn’t have to live with. It’s not about me and it’s not about my family as much as it is about, you know, that people live in communities that have been going through this for many, many years. So, the more that we can bring these people in and — and have them face consequences and get them out of our country, the safer America will be.
