Golfing with Trump was out of respect for the office

Philadelphia Eagles running back and Super Bowl champion Saquon Barkley said his Sunday golf outing with President Donald Trump was out of respect for the presidency and not political.

“Some people are really upset cause I played golfed and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT,” Barkley posted to X. “Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand.

“Just golfed with Obama not too long ago…and look forward to finishing my round with Trump ! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day.”

Barkley and Trump spent Sunday golfing at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey before flying back on Air Force One to visit the White House.

“What a nice guy he is,” Trump said of Barkley. “I wanted to race him, but I decided not to do it.”

The Eagles are set to visit the White House on Monday to celebrate their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the team’s second championship.

Multiple Eagles players have said they would not attend the White House, but team owner Jeffrey Lurie called visiting the White House a “time-honored tradition.”

“When you grow up, and you hear about, ‘Oh, the championship team got to go to the White House,’ that’s what this is,” Lurie said. “And so, we didn’t have that opportunity, and now we do. I think we’re all looking forward to it.”
