It’s been quite a week for hypocrites. How fitting that so many came out of the woodwork on Holy Week. Jesus was surrounded by hypocrites as He prepared to give His life for them.
Politics, of course, is populated by prevaricators on all sides, and Washington, D.C., is the mother ship of moral turpitude. But the left wing in the opening 88 days of Trump 2.0 has cranked hypocrisy up to 11, in the parlance of This Is Spinal Tap, which itself was created by a leftist hypocrite known for being a Meathead. Let’s just say the “Coexist” and “In This House We Believe…” signs aren’t aging well.
We’ve seen a lot of Do as I say, not as I do on a week devoted to remembering the Savior who taught the world to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” From a prosecutor with a big mortgage problem to an emotionally disturbed media gadfly crushing on an accused cold-blooded killer, the hypocrites were especially ridiculous this week.
Here are top hypocrites of the week.
‘Political Stunts’
1. Sen. Chris Van Hollen — Talk about your bad timing. As the Maryland Democrat was jetting about to pick up his “Maryland Man” in El Salvador, the wings melted off of his little grandstanding, gaslighting tour. First, the liberal Icarus of photo-op politics was turned away at the gates of the Central American prison where his “constituent” Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia is being held, ruining Van Hollen’s quest to free an illegal immigrant and alleged violent gang member. Then, the left’s storyline about a “wrongfully deported” victim of President Trump’s cleanup of the left’s illegal immigration mess fell apart under the weight of facts. Turns out, as my Federalist colleague John Daniel Davidson reported Thursday, Garcia isn’t a victim. He’s a creep, and a violent one at that, according to police records, multiple immigration judges, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and a very detailed domestic violence restraining order filed against him. But Van Hollen and the merry band of useful idiots in the Pravda Press kept pushing the “social justice” storyline as Attorney General Pam Bondi and the El Salvador government rightly told them to go pound sand.
The question is, where were hypocrite Van Hollen and his leftist pals during a Biden-Harris administration that unleashed an invasion of the United States through open-border policies?
“Where was their outrage when American families were devastated by fentanyl pouring across the southern border, when children were trafficked by cartels, and when criminal illegal aliens took the lives of innocent Americans?” asked Bob Unanue and Chad Wolf of the America First Policy Institute. “These political stunts reveal just how disconnected they are from the pain and suffering their own policies have inflicted on the very communities they claim to champion—especially Hispanic families who bore the brunt of this manufactured chaos.”
Van Hollen ultimately was able to meet with Garcia, according to multiple news outlets. And, course, Van Hollen sent the salivating accomplice media photos of he and the deported man. The important thing is that the grandstanding senator got the photo-op he came for.
‘News Distortion Doesn’t Cut It’
2. Corporate Media — The hypocrite hits just kept coming with this gang of thieves. Just look at the predictable “coverage” of “the Maryland Man” story. Their sins of omission were particularly telling. NBC News in particular glossed over the details of Garcia’s documented gang affiliation and the restraining order his wife filed. The network news outlet quoted Garcia’s wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, “a strong, vocal supporter of her husband,” as the story described her. Vasquez Sura, who in a statement said she was a survivor of domestic violence in a previous relationship, added that, “No one is perfect, and no marriage is perfect.” NBC News left out the fact that, by Vasquez Sura’s own account, her imperfect husband punched, scratched, and ripped her shirt off, among other allegations of domestic violence.
But, again, why let the facts get in the way of the usual anti-Trump narrative from the “resistance” media? A Gallup poll in October found Americans’ trust in media at an all-time low. The spin job corporate media has delivered over the first three months of Trump’s second term should do little to bolster those basement-level numbers.
Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr on Thursday took aim at Comcast, accusing the media giant’s “news” outlets of “misleading the American people.”
“When the truth comes out, they ignore it,” Carr wrote on X. “Comcast knows that federal law requires its licensed operations to serve the public interest. News distortion doesn’t cut it.”
‘No One Is Above the Law’
3. New York Attorney General Letitia James — The leftist prosecutor once pledged to shine “a bright light into every dark corner of” Trump’s real estate dealings in a bogus civil fraud case she brought against the president and his family. Now it looks like the prosecutor could be prosecuted by Trump Department of Justice on potentially damning mortgage fraud charges. She’s accused of misrepresenting her property information to secure better loan terms. What comes around goes around.
As my Federalist colleague Brianna Lyman wrote on Wednesday, James is “accused of doing exactly what she prosecuted Trump for.” The AG’s 2024 post on X, rubbing Trump’s nose in an insane $450 million judgment against the Trump Organization, is coming back to bite her in the backside.
“Roses are red. Violets are blue. No one is above the law. Even when you think the rules don’t apply to you,” James crowed.
“There simply cannot be different rules for different people,” she wrote in another post.
So where does this fraudulent prosecutor go now that she’s facing fraud charges? She’s planning a posh fundraiser, seeking campaign contributions of up to $18,000 per guest, according to the New York Post.
“The high-dollar fundraiser will be hosted at the home of left-wing activists Rod Grozier and Rob Smith, the latter of whom is the CEO and founder of The Phluid Project, a gender-neutral clothing company,” the Post reports. The invitation features a photo of the Democrat AG set atop a gay pride flag.
“Memo to state Attorney General Tish James: If you’re going to drag a former US president to court for misleading financial institutions, best not be accused of doing the exact same thing yourself,” the Post Editorial Board opined this week.
‘Smiley Face on Assassination’
4. “Reporter”/Self-Promoter Taylor Lorenz — A couple of years ago, the journo-narcissist wrote a piece for The Washington Post about the toxic and violent online environment that Lorenz claimed she and other women in journalism routinely face. But it seems Lorenz isn’t opposed to violence if its targeting healthcare executives.
On an episode of CNN’s MisinfoNation, Lorenz fawned over Luigi Mangione, who faces execution if he is convicted on charges of gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO and father of two Brian Thompson.
“You’re gonna see women especially that feel like, ‘Oh my God, here’s this man who’s a revolutionary, who’s famous, who’s handsome, who’s young, who’s smart, he’s a person that seems like this morally good man,’ which is hard to find,” Lorenz said of what she described as the “fangirls” attracted to Mangione. She sounded like one of them.
Late last year, the leftist told Piers Morgan that she felt “joy” in Thompson’s death.
In a heated interview Wednesday with Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity, the leftist reporter said she believes “our current healthcare system is murderous.”
“I believe that our current healthcare system is murderous,” she added.
“Your comments basically put your seal of approval on murder and assassination, and I’m trying to understand, whether you like this guy or like the way he does business or not, you’re advocating and putting a smiley face on assassination, and I’m trying to understand what is in your soul that doesn’t understand he’s a father and a husband here,” Hannity told Lorenz.
“What are you missing? There seems to be a missing chip with you.”
Perhaps the selective justice journo is missing a soul.
“I don’t believe in things like religious things, like souls and all these things,” she told Hannity.
So much unholiness on Holy Week.
