JD Vance’s half brother Cory Bowman launches campaign for Cincinnati mayor

Vice President JD Vance‘s half brother Cory Bowman is running for mayor in Cincinnati.

Bowman, 36, is the city’s first Republican mayoral candidate since 2009. Bowman is a pastor at River Church Cincinnati, which he started after moving to the city in 2020.

Mayor Aftab Pureval is running for reelection after his first term in office. Pureval received 66% of the vote in his 2021 campaign. Prior to February, Pureval was running unopposed.

“I think it’s fantastic that I’m not running unopposed,” Pureval said at a recent ribbon cutting.

Bowman is up against the incumbent and one other Republican candidate, recruiter Brian Frank. The primary election will be nonpartisan, with the top two candidates moving on to the November election.

Vance made little mention of Bowman in his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. The two share a father who wanted to put Vance up for adoption when he was born. As a result, Vance’s mother opted not to give her son the Bowman last name. The half brothers reconnected when Vance was 13.

Neither the White House nor Vance has offered an endorsement in the race. The Washington Examiner reached out to the White House for comment.

Before Vance became a senator, he and his wife bought a home in Cincinnati in 2018.

The primary race will take place on May 6, with the general election on Nov. 4.
