Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that Russia is continuing its attacks on the front lines even after a pause on fighting lasting until Monday was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin just this morning.
Putin announced an “Easter truce” on Saturday that would see a pause in fighting from 6 p.m. local time Saturday until 12 a.m. on Monday. Zelensky responded to the announcement by noting that drone attacks were launched just 45 minutes before the start of the truce.
Now, it appears that Russian attacks have only continued despite the pause taking effect over four hours ago.
Zelensky posted on X that Russian “assault operations continue on several frontline sectors, and Russian artillery fire has not subsided,” adding that there is “no trust in words coming from Moscow.”
He also indicated that Ukraine would respond to any Russian strikes.
“We know all too well how Moscow manipulates, and we are prepared for anything. Ukraine’s Defense Forces will act rationally — responding in kind. Every Russian strike will be met with an appropriate response,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president is also expecting updates on any front-line fighting from his commander in chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, later tonight.

The latest reported breach in the pause follows suggestions from U.S. officials that they may “move on” from peace talks that have stalled and failed to reach any sort of ceasefire. However, U.S. President Donald Trump has remained optimistic about a deal to end the war.
“I think we have a really good chance of getting it done, and it’s coming to a head right now,” Trump said on Friday.
